National Public Lands Day

Sep 4, 2026 | Announcements

Friends of Big Morongo Canyon Preserve is celebrating National Public Lands Day with our partners, the Sand to Snow National Monument, on Saturday, September 26. Come to the preserve to participate in multiple programs to support our public lands.

Help us to remove pre-cut, downed timber alongside the Marsh Trail with the California Cadet Corps members from Twentynine Palms and Yucca Valley and a contingent of Marines from the Single Marine Program at the 29 Palms Marine Corps Base. We will meet at 8 am. Please bring gloves, long pants, sturdy shoes/boots, a hat, and a water bottle.

We will have a bird walk to celebrate National Public Lands Day. Meet in the parking lot at 8 am. Beginning birders are welcomed and loaner binoculars are available.

Let’s draw together!  Instructor and artist Jillian Sandell will give a series of prompts to help participants to observe and record some of the natural world around them, including plants, bugs, birds, and the weather. There will be a range of drawing and writing materials available, and examples of formats to try, allowing participants to experiment with different ways to record what they see, hear, and experience. All ages and skill levels are welcome! All materials provided!  Meet at 9 am at the Nature Center.

Please register for any of the events at this link. All programs are FREE!
