Butterflies (New Site Prototype Page)

The plan for the new site is to have 2 “lists” for each family (plants, birds, etc.). One list (the “tile list”) is all pictures, and is intended so people can find species they’ve seen and learn to identify species by site. The second is the “wildlife list”, which is the more traditional list of species, family, occurrence, and notes. The lists here are the “tile lists” and are in addition to, not replacing, the “wildlife lists”.

Tile Pages

The preserve’s 31,000+ acres contain a wide variety of habitats – Sonoran and Mojave Desert ecosystems, riparian wood‐ lands, a community park, former cultivated lands, stands of Joshua trees and Mojave yuccas, and pinyon, oak, and ju‐ niper woodlands. Its proximity to the higher San Bernardino and San Jacinto Mountains and to northwest Mexico adds potential for rare strays.

Here are some butterflies photographed in the preserve. How many can you identify?  (Click on the photo to reveal the answer.)
